Shore Excursions – ‘the unofficial guide’……….. Part Four

Dress Code……..
Okay, so generally it’s the obvious things like sensible, comfortable footwear, loose cotton clothing when somewhere hot, a sunhat etc etc.
However, something you should bear in mind is different cultures and their expectations. This would really only apply in Religious buildings in Europe, but outside Europe it just isn’t the done thing to have too much flesh showing, or any at all, even on a hot day!

I had an unpleasant experience last year in a Souk in Tunisia. I disembarked from the MSC Fantasia wearing just a pair of shorts and a sun top and thought nothing of it until I was in the middle of a Souk and suddenly became very conscious that I was the only person, male or female, who was dressed like this, and I was causing quite a stir amongst the locals. One old woman was even running her Rosary Beads through her fingers whilst looking at me in disgust!
My advice to the girls out there would be to always have a scarf or shawl in your bag which you can pop around your shoulders or over your head if necessary.
