The newest addition to the Thomson fleet, the Dream, is heading to Hamburg for a six week revamp and refurbishment after an inaugural season that can only be described as disasterous. As well as ‘cosmetic’ improvements there will also be some techncal improvements during this time.
Ian Corbett, Thomsons Cruise Product Manager has said that this has been planned from the outset and is in no way connected, or in response to, the critisism that the ship received when it was featured on BBS Watchdog earlier in the year.
Alterations will include a revamp of the reception area and shopping arcade – to include brighter wall coverings and new carpets. The kids area will be doubled in size. New Thomson branded signage will also be put in place.
Thomson Dream came under fire from Watchdog last month after passengers complained of broken air conditioning, sewage smells and flooded cabins.
Ian Corbett said many of these issues had already been dealt with and were now behind them. “We are heading in the right direction” he said, adding that “people forget that she is 24 years old”. Nice one Ian – I must remember to point that out to my clients when they are looking at spending a couple of thousand pounds on a cruise on the Dream! I’m sure they will be fine with that!
Can anybody who has been on board the Dream this season comment. It would be good to get some feedback.

Working for Thomson across the Summer Season in Majorca, the port where the Dream sails out of, I can confirm there were some major problems from May through to July, However after that i received nothing but great feedback regarding the dream or the “nightmare” as we named it!
The sewage smells were gone, Clean water came through the shower…ITS A REVELATION!!
In Thomson’s defence though, throughout the dreams more difficult periods (May, June 2010) even the most unhappy customers still raved about the service of the staff onbaord, food quality and entertainment.
I hope this helps!
Happy Cruising
