Is Size Important? Part Two – Large Resort Ships

If you enjoy being with a large number of people in a busy bustling atmosphere, with plenty to do then a large ship is the right one for you. There will be a wide range of entertainment, plenty of dining venues, many, many facilities and excellent children programmes.

So what are the advantages and disadvantages of these giants of the seas?

ADVANTAGES –
Large ships have the largest number of public rooms and facilities, and more space (but also more passengers!)
Generally offer more dining options
Sail much better than small ships in rough seas
More facilities on offer for everyone, particularly families with children

DISADVANTAGES
Trying to find your way around can be a nightmare!
Queuing seems to be a part of everyday life on board – restaurants, disembarkation, immigration
Large ships can be like retail parks surrounded by cabins
Loss of the personal touch
Large cruise ships are often to big to get into ports and shore excursions have to be by Tender – more waiting around and queuing.
Mass produced food – it’s not easy catering for 5000+  people!
Announcements constantly, and in many different languages

Contacting room service by telephone is very difficult
Talking to my clients when they return from their cruises, some of them love the ‘big ship’ experience, others don’t like these ‘floating hotels’. It really is down to the individual and as a Cruise Consultant all I can do is advise as my choice may not be yours.
