Cruise the Med in style in 2011 with Holland America Line

This is an exciting prospect for me as I have been lucky enough to ‘sample the goods’. I was on the Eurodam when she launched two years ago in Southampton and I thought she was absolutely fantastic (see my earlier post). It was almost impossible to find fault. The ships are stunning, service excellent and food was a fantastic standard. For those of you who aren’t familiar with this line, think Celebrity with a bit more verve and panache, certainly more style, and you won’t be too far off the mark.

In 2011 Holland America are going to be all over the Med offering their signature itineraries, which I have to say show much more flair than some of the usual ones we see. And new for that season are some really exciting seven night cruises. You will be able to sail from the UK to the Ffjords for as little as £789 per person – Dover and Tilbury will both be operating Holland America ships.

So, why Holland America? What do they have that is so special and unique? Well, plenty from what I saw. The piano bar was a particular favourite, the best I have ever come across at sea. The pianist was a great character and we all joined in a really lively sing-song – fantastic atmosphere! The Sports Bar was fantastic, not the usual ordinary bar with big screens, oh no, even the seats were unique, giants baseball gloves and the cushions were big baseballs. It is things like that, the attention to detail that makes Holland America so special. And the spa – to die for!  Sheer bliss!

There are going to be seven Holland America ships in the Med next year, offering so much more than you would normally experience on a ship. They will be sailing from a variety of ports – Venice, Rome, Barcelona, Dover, Copenhagen to name but a few. Who better to reveal Europe than the cruise line whose heritage and style are European, heart and soul?
