Carnival to return to Europe

Carnival is to return to Europe in 2011 after a gap of three years with a series of itineraries around the Mediterranean

The US line will be bringing Carnival Magic, which is currently under construction, to Europe from May to October next year when it will be based from Barcelona.

Carnival ran a European programme for several years in the mid-2000s but pulled out after canceling its 2009 programme from the UK.

Magic will run a series of seven, nine and 12-day cruises from Barcelona, which will call at ports such as Monte Carlo, Rome, Naples, Messina, Palma, Marseilles, Venice and Dubrovnik.

A special one-off nine-day voyage from Venice to Barcelona will operate from May 1-10, 2011. Please read my blog posting about Barcelona if you are interested.

Carnival Magic will be a sister ship to Dream which launched late last year and will have a capacity of 3,652 passengers.

I think this is great news for families and younger people who enjoy fun-filled, party style cruising.  There has been a gap in the market so it’s great to see them back.
