Family Time v Sports Bar…………….. ?

Now I am not that into sport, in fact I can take it or leave it to be honest so maybe I am not the right person to be commenting here, but is the ability to have great sports coverage on your cruise, or not as the case maybe, a deal breaker for you? You can watch sport all year round on TV, get it on catch up if necessary, so do you really have to watch it on your annual family holiday?
Yes, annual family holiday!!! Probably one of the few times during the year when families get to spend some quality time together, seeing new places, taking part in activities that they don’t get to do at other times, bonding as a family – and you need to be watching sport? Really?

So the excursion today is to beautiful Venice, or the Old Town in Dubrovnik with its stunning views over the Adriatic Sea from its walls, historic Rome or stunning Santorini, and the whole family are really excited about it yet you will be staying on board to watch a football match. Oh please!! You can do that any weekend of the year but you may never have the chance to visit this port of call again.
P&O and Cunard today proudly announced that they will be offering ‘live sporting action’ during 2014, screening just about every major/minor worldwide sporing event you can think of – oh maybe they have missed off the Women’s Royal Auxillary Balloon Corps Arm Wrestling Annual Contest!
Ok, some people will be thrilled but I just feel that this will be detrimental to ‘family time’ if all the men end up sitting in one of the bars swilling beer and shouting at giant screens for hours on end rather than enjoying their families company.
Maybe I am wrong – I am open to your suggestions/ thoughts, but don’t expect to find me anywhere near a sporting fixture that is being screened on any ship this summer!
For those of you that may be interested, here is what is on offer from Carnival Group during 2014.

Happy Cruising guys!

Live sporting actionwith P&O Cruises and Cunard in 2014
Passengers can keep up with all the action from a momentous year of sport with P&O Cruises and Cunard.
Whether it’s Andy Murray defending his Wimbledon title or Roy Hodgson’s England team playing in the World Cup in Brazil, live coverage will be screened on board across the two fleets of ships.
All coverage will be shown in public areas on board, starting with the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi next month.
The second half of the Premier League season will feature ahead of the FIFA World Cup in June and July. German Bundesliga matches will be shown together with Formula 1 motor racing, the Australian French and US Open tennis tournaments and golf’s Ryder Cup, Open Championship and US Open.
Live coverage to will be available to all P&O Cruises and Cunard passengers on Sport 24, and is satellite dependent.
Chief commercial officer Gerard Tempest said: We are delighted to be able to include coverage of these major sporting events on board.
“We don’t want passengers to miss out on any of the excitement of the games by taking a cruise holiday – and now they won’t. Besides, I can’t think of a better way to watch the World Cup, or see Murray serve to retain his Wimbledon title, than sipping a mojito in the Med!”
