The days of the traditional 2 week bucket and spade family holiday are long gone.
With our busy lifestyles we need to make sure we get the most out of our holiday time.
There are lots of great ideas around to help you achieve this – perhaps a cruise starting in one country and finishing in another, and a hotel stay on either side. Or cruise from Southampton, disembark in Barcelona, enjoy a few nights sampling the tapas and Rioja and head back to blighty on the train?
I am often asked by customers who are sailing out of Venice on the same day as they fly in – what can I do? Is there time to sightsee? My answer is not really, unless your ship is overnight in Venice before you set sail – so why not fly out a couple of days before and enjoy what Venice has to offer?

My Family and I were lucky enough to spend a few days in Venice a couple of weeks ago. We stayed on Venice Island – arriving by our very own private water taxi – I have to say it is the only way to travel and well worth the Euros! After the usual Gondola ride, walking tour and visit to St Marks Square and bearing in mind that there is only so much shopping my Husband can take!
On our third day there I had pre booked the train from Venice to Lake Garda – it was so easy. The train was clean, on time and direct – the station was a short taxi ride away from Sirmione, on Lake Garda, and we spent a beautiful day here, sampling the delights of the area – I would definitely recommend this to anyone who has a few days in Venice. If you have longer – why not combine the stay with Venice and a couple of nights in Sirmione – it’s up to you.
The world is definitely your oyster, as they say.
