Love Liverpool? Love The North West Of England?

Well a lot of the cruise lines certainly do!

What a fantastic boost to the North West economy the cruise lines have achieved, it’s not just the monetary value either-  approximately 7 million pounds, and this figure is expected to grow over the coming years as this year council chiefs approved the next stage in building Liverpool’s new permanent cruise liner terminal it also  gives cruise passengers the opportunity to experience the fantastic and friendly North West Of England.

For those not wanting to travel too far from the city,   Liverpool itself has so much to offer, museums and art galleries, a beautiful water front,  great shopping to name just a few activities that passengers can enjoy. It’s easy to do this yourself – no need to purchase expensive shore excursions, just get off the ship and wander around, you are so close to the city centre.   And as the North West is a relatively compact area with great motorway connections passengers can take advantage of this and perhaps travel further – within an hour they could be experiencing the beautiful Lake District or within 2 hours what about the sights and sound of historic York?  There is so much on offer.

You may think to yourself – cruising from or to Liverpool? What’s the point?

But let me tell you how popular cruising around the UK is. I understand that there will be 17 departures from Liverpool next year, mainly with Fred Olsen and Cruise and Maritime, small ships but some great itineraries and there are 41 visits by cruise ships next year – Cunard, Disney, Cruise and Maritime to name just a few and definitely something to suit all tastes and budgets.

Now I never can remember if it is the £ versus the dollar rate or Euro vs Pound or  vice versa which one is better for us – but with our £ not going as far as it used to when visiting either US or Euro lands, stick with a round the British Isles cruise or something like this and help not only your pocket but the local economy!
