Most of us like to keep up to date with new technology, home improvements and the like, but the cruise lines are on a never ending quest to bring us the best and most innovative experience they can. It seems we are hearing from the cruise lines more frequently than ever before their plans to get bigger and better, and hopefully a better experience for their passengers.
Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Elizabeth has recently arrived in Germany to undergo a multi million pound refit. To give you a taste of what they are doing, nine new single cabins will be built, refurbishments will be made to the informal dining in the Lido restaurant – waiters will be on hand with insulated tea and coffee pots to serve hot drinks at all meal times, carpets are being replaced and 32 inch flat screen televisions are being placed in passenger cabins, Sun awnings are being erected on the open deck near to the Lido pool, there will be new exciting shopping areas to spend your money in!
The NCL Ship – Norwegian Jewel, has just undergone a 2 week refit. She is the first of their older ships to be retrofitted with the popular O’Sheehan’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill. Also been added to the Jewel is the Sugarcane Mojito Bar, a concept that first debuted earlier this year on the Norwegian Getaway. Carpets and flooring have been replaced in passenger areas, the pool areas have been refurbished and something very special for me is the introduction of cannoli and cupcakes from the Cake Boss. Fantastic.
So this Bank Holiday weekend when you are buying decking, paint, wallpaper etc from your local DIY shop – spare a thought for those cruise ships that appear to be getting ” refreshed” on an ever increasing timescale.
