Have I just awoken from a winter hibernation and it is 01st April already? I am finding hard to believe the following tale……
I have just heard that fisherman on the North Coast of England are finding large numbers of Canadian lobsters in their nets. These lobsters are native to the Atlantic ocean and the fisherman are puzzled as to why these creatures are being found in our seas? Have the lobsters decided they need more exercise? or are they just looking for a change of scenery?
The answer to these questions is NO – it seems that diners on board some Atlantic crossing cruise ships have decided to become animal saviours and have been buying these lobsters alive and then launching them into the ocean in an effort to save them, obviously thinking that they will live to a ripe old age and raise lots of other lobsters.
However, they could not be more wrong. Apparently, they are unable to mate with the local lobsters – who knew? They may carry disease that will wipe out our native lobsters, so all in all it’s not a good idea as it will do more harm than good.
I suggest if you want to help save the animals – adopt an elephant or join WWF, it will certainly do the animals more good and you can continue to enjoy the lobster!
