Many cruise ships include Naples in Southern Italy as part of their itinerary. Have you ever been to Naples before? I have, once! and that was just to use it as my airport gateway to get to Sorrento. Admittedly, this was a few years ago, and the city may have changed, but all I remember as we drove through was that it looked quite scruffy and dirty. So my advice for a great day out whilst in this area of Italy is a journey that will take in the stunning sights of Pompeii, Sorrento and Positano?
It it about a 45 minute drive to Pompeii, the views on the journey are magnificent – Capri and Mount Vesuvius in the distance are breath taking.
You can have a guided tour around the ruins of Pompeii – did you know that it is a UNESCO world heritage site? It is fascinating to see – I found it very moving.
After your journey into the ancient past, you can continue on what is known as the Amalfi Drive – not for the faint hearted on some of those bends! But fantastic for taking brilliant photographs.
Finish your time in this stunning area of Italy with lunch and a stroll around Sorrent0 – you may of seen Gino Di Campos’ cookery series last year on Italy – he was in this area and sampled some delicious food and the famous Limoncello liquer.
These trips can be arranged before you cruise, for example the above day trip is from £52.00 – excellent value I think.
To get the most from your cruise why not pre book your excursions before you sail. Give me a call or e mail me so I can help you through the options available for you.
