Aye Aye Captain – There’s A Mutiny On Board

Aye Aye Captain – there’s a mutiny on board

If you have never cruised before and think that cruise passengers are of the genteel sort, dancing around a beautiful ballroom while the band plays on then you should take a look at some of the footage that has been posted on line from passengers on board Norwegian Cruise lines ship NCL Spirit.

What was supposed to be a two week mystical Norwegian Fjords trip has descended into something quite different. According to reports passengers feel they have been left floating around as they have had to miss out on some of the most important ports of call. The cruise ship has failed to dock in Amsterdam, Le Harve, Reykjavik and Greenock. Norwegian Cruise Line have blamed missing these ports of call on bad weather. I am sure that this is the case, but how unfortunate, it is very rare for so many missed ports to happen and what seems to of caused the largest issue was the length of time at sea. Some passengers have claimed that the food standards dropped as presumably the cruise line could not take on fresh supplies as the ship wasn’t docking and then on top of this there have been issues with the plumbing – toilets not flushing etc.

I am sure Norwegian Cruise Line have done all they can to help and assist passengers during this situation so it was a little shocking to see how some passengers can react. Shouting at staff and becoming abusive perhaps isn’t the best way forward – security even threatened to arrest some passengers at one point. Some have reported that it felt like a riot was breaking out, and that is definitely not a good sign. The staff can only do so much and we all know the power of social media these days so no cruise line wants adverse publicity like this.

For me I think it’s more a sign of the times, gone are the days when people were respectful of one another, it seems that it is my way or no way – what do you think?
