Isn’t It All Getting A Bit Complicated?

Why do we try and over complicate things these days? Has it always been this way? Or is it just in the past few years?

There are lots of examples I can tell you about, personally and in my work life, but I will stick to just the one this evening as it is something that I have heard about this week.

I attended an MSC Cruises training the other day. Now I am sure that they have spent vast amounts of time, money and man hours researching their latest idea – the MSC experiences.

Basically, they are the following

Bella – Value for money and no frills – their lowest price – basically your dining time will be confirmed on board, your cabin number is only guaranteed once your  tickets have been issued etc

Then we have the Fantastica Experience – better choice of cabin, your cabin number will be guaranteed, special events for Children, priority given over those on the Bella experience for dining, complimentary in cabin breakfast – all sounds great!

Their third experience is Aurea – This is for those who want an all inclusive experience – a drinks package is included, some spa treatments, flexible dining option, complimentary access to an exclusive sun deck.

And finally they have their Yacht Club experience – this is only available on one class of ship – Fantasia, this experience provides a concierge, butler service, luxury suites etc.

Now, I understand that the best experiences cost money and that if you want  drinks packages, a butler, private dining restaurants that there is a premium to pay for this -fair enough. But what I don’t understand is why have a Bella and a Fantastica experience – why not just the one? It can be a couple of hundred pounds difference between the two,is it worth it?

To me we are going back to the days of 1st, 2nd and 3rd class.

What do you think? Do you thinks this is a good idea? How would you feel if you were on the Bella Experience only to find out later about the Fantastica experience?
