I have had the most amazing 2 days on board AMA Prima with 3 of my colleagues over the weekend for my first experience on a River Cruise.
We headed to Amsterdam on Sat afternoon for a pre-1 night stay we explored the local sights of Dam had a few drinks and tried the local food well I say local it was a MacDonald’s !
Security was very tight in the centre as heads of state where in the palace. We stayed in a lovely Hotel called the Citizen M which the rooms where like pods and felt more like been on a Cruise Ship then in a Hotel but very nice and would highly recommend to stay.
We headed the next morning up to the dock which took around 15 minutes from where we were staying costing around 25 euros. The Ship looked very nice as we pulled up and really didn’t know what to expect, we stepped on board and were greeted with very friendly staff all lined up on the stairs to take us to our cabin, we handed passports In and I was then escorted to my own room which was just beautiful very large and bright and stunning decorated, the door opened onto a nice balcony with 2 chairs and a table, also we had a French balcony window as well with 3 chairs in front. The bathroom was very spacious and had a huge shower in. All the facilities you could want fridge with stocked bottle water and all complementary. Bathrobes are provided along with slippers and the wardrobe space was amazing 3 huge hanging spaces with plenty of hangers.
One thing that made an impression was the sense of space which I didn’t accept we had a look at the French Balcony rooms and they were just a nice slightly smaller and the bathroom wasn’t as big but still very nice also the suites the main difference was a bath tub and a shower all beautifully decorated to a very high standard.
We went to explore what the rest of the Ship had to offer and found a fantastic gym small but very nice also a hairdressers and beauty room.
The main lounge was very spacious lots of chairs and even when full you didn’t fell on top of each other and a great way to socialise, the restaurant was lovely beautiful chandeliers and little booths and very stylish, another point was he staff who are just fabulous and so helpful they really want to enough for you.
Up on deck you have lots of table’s chairs, a nice size pool and Jacuzzi; I was quite shocked how big it was on the sun deck.
We had lunch before we arrived into Volendam you get wine beers and soft drinks included for lunch and dinner; food was a good selection and lots of choices.
We experienced going through a dock which was amazing you could touch the sides of the dock it was that tight but for me fascinating to watch having never done it before.
We arrived into Volendam and the best thing we were in the centre no jumping on a bus for hours and then reaching your destination just stepping off and that’s it which gives you so much more time to explore the destination. We didn’t have a great deal of time as we had to head back but what a beautiful charming place and would love to go back and have more time.
Of course when we got back on board we had to try the afternoon tea which was lovely, cakes sandwiches and wine perfect.
On the evening we had a gala dinner so the chance to get all glammed up again the evening meal was very good and lots to choose from if you didn’t like what they had always had chicken, steak, pasta which they can make for you. After dinner we had live entertainment then a disco in the main lounge which was very good fun and the chance to meet new people.
I was very impressed with the Cruise the main thing for me was the space as thought would be very small and cramped but nothing like that at all and I can see why so many people go as you see so much beautiful scenery and are in the heart of the towns and villagers I would highly recommend it and can’t wait to try another one.
