Very sad news to hear that a chef on board Cunard’s Queen Mary threw himself over board, all staff have been banned from drinking, The, 26yr old had only been with them for a short while and had been drinking when he climbed onto deck 7 he was crying and saying he was going to throw himself off, his colleagues but him to bed and didn’t think any more of it,
The first anyone knew he was missing was when he didn’t turn in for his shift, CCTV was checked and ship turned round at approx. 1040am to begin the search for the chef, passengers on board were also asked to help by the captain in the search,
The search was called off 24 hours later as the man was never found and due to the freezing conditions and thick fog , they also banned alcohol for 24 hours for all staff after it came to light he had been in a drunken fight with one of his colleagues,
It also comes back to safety on board and what more can be done to enhance system on board to detect when someone goes overboard, surely in this day and age something can be invented to help passengers that either throw them self’s off or fall over board as this would give people better chance of survival and the ships finding them a lot quicker,
As many as 25 people each year fall from Cruise ships,
