I was extremely disturb when I read about this, Tourists are been offered the chance to take a boat trip to see the rusted battered hulk of the Costa Concordia! All for the sum of 10 euro’s each.
For 10 euros you can get within 200 yards of the vessel which is currently undergoing gradual demolition in the Italian port of Genoa.
Thirty-two people lost their lives when the giant cruise liner capsized off the island of Giglio in January 2012.
Costa Concordia was towed away from Giglio in July of this year, after 2 pain staking years it was raised, refloated and removed from where she ran aground in shallow waters just outside of Giglio port.
The cost involved in this has been over a billion euros, and has involved hundreds of engineer’s divers from all over the world.
Guides on the boats recount how the Concordia rammed into Giglio on the night of January 13, 2012, during an ill-judged attempt by its captain, Francesco Schettino, to sail close to the island to perform a “salute” for the benefit of passengers and crew.
The tour last an hour and passengers are promised an close-up view of the ship, which has giant hollow steel boxes clamped to its sides to give buoyancy, I just think this is extremely disrespectful to the deceased and their families and should not be allowed, how can someone cash in and such a huge and disaster and I think this is very wrong.
Capt. Francesco is on trial in Grosseto, Tuscany, on charges of manslaughter, abandoning ship and causing a maritime disaster. He denies all the charges.
Would love to hear your thoughts on this.
