The Albatross Of Mykonos

Back in 2016 my husband Jamie and I had just returned from a stunning 12 night cruise  around Italy, Greece and Turkey.

We have precariously written blogs about our unforgettable day in Fira and Oia in Santorini.

Fast forward 3 years and my Instagram news feed is awash with intrepid travel photos of an Mykonos Greece which actually prompted this long overdue blog.

We arrived and tendered up at 08:00am. The days sun had not yet reached the 35 degree heat it would by midday.

We boarded the tender boat and headed to the shore. It was similar to Santorini the port we had visited the day prior, Volcanic cliffs set on the backdrop of stunning sun-kissed golden sandy beaches. Ancient coves form natural crevices for the emerald green clear waters.

Old fishing boats lined the path to the bold town.

What can we expect from this old charming Greek Island!

We wondered round the corner and could see some harbour fronted restaurants serving up fresh fish that no doubt had been caught just moments earlier. The outside tables were set down on the sand with views directly over the harbour. We carried on walking until a myriad of maze like, stone cobbled streets unfolded before us. Within just a short moment we were both encapsulate by the natural beauty and well and truly lost in equal measure.

Tourists can Get lost!

A bold statement I know but this is the best way of exploring Mykonos….

The town was built in this maze like style designed to confuse looters and invaders.

Over the years its boutique style shops and eateries have made it popular for wealthy Greeks to holiday as well as tourists alike.

I have never seen so many jewellery shops selling some of the worlds most expensive watches.

As a woman my eyes were constantly taken by the high end fashion.

We took a little break in the midday sun in a quiet little cafe over looking the gorgeous harbour.

This is when we were introduced to the native and now Insta famous Albatross. The bird of Mykonos, What fascinated me most about this beautiful huge bird was that it was quite happy to come into the restaurants and sit amongst locals.

I would recommend taking a cruise itinerary that offers both Santorini and Mykonos to see the very best of Greece.
