Being half Greek Cypriot myself, I spent a quite lot of my childhood on my holidays in Greece and Cyprus, naturally I am not alone with both Greek speaking countries a firm fave with many more UK Tourists.
In the past 10 years however we have seen a huge demand for Croatia itinerary and many cruise lines see this Jewel in the Adriatic just as important as The Greek Island itineraries.
There was a time in the late 80s when Split in Croatia was becoming popular but due to conflicts in the region through the 90s where fewer tourists were advised to travel to the region.
Nowadays people want to go and see the unexplored and visit slightly more off the beaten track destinations. For this reason we have seen so many cruise lines invest in departures from Venice and tackle both Greece and Croatia as well as Montenegro and Albania. I have never been to Croatia however having seen so many places on tv it looks to me like a little Gem.
Due to some of the ports being Venetian Walled Towns and harbors some of the ships actually have to be a little smaller to get in and among st these ports so you tend to find its the slight smaller ships that venture here. Which I actually think is the biggest part of the appeal.
When you are traveling to such beautiful Islands its nice to know that 6,000 people are not arriving with you and you can appreciate a small harbor city without the crowds.
I would love to know have you been to Croatia or is it firmly on your Mediterranean bucket list .
They seem to have a very similar way of life and climate to Greece, Southern Italy and Malta where they seem to be big on Food and friendly people, but the landscape is absolutely stunning as well.
If you have been what was your favorite port?
