Most people by the time they get to a certain age have a bucket list, as of yet I do not.
After speaking to a client last week looking at a particular cruise itinerary to tick off of their bucket list, it got me to thinking about what mine should be and what most people tend to have on theirs. My clients have completed some of theirs already and the Panama Canal was the next one to fulfill.
I have been very fortunate in the past to be able to already tick some destinations off of my potential bucket list, so now I have decided what do I really want to do whilst I still have the time available.
So far in my relatively short life (I’m only 39), I have already been to the following places that most people would add to their bucket list:
Taj Mahal, The Great Barrier Reef, Venice, Paris, New York, Niagara Falls
Some bucket lists are also not just about travelling but achieving an ambition such as learning a new language, living overseas, bungee jumping, learn a new skill and so on.
Again, some of these I have already achieved, I can speak Spanish even though I am not fluent (unless plied with alcohol) but I can hold a decent conversation. I lived overseas in Spain for 10 years. I don’t do heights so I will not be bungee jumping!
So I have decided to compile some of my list and hopefully by the time I leave this earth, I would have like to completed most, if not all of them. So here are my top 5:
World Cruise – top of the list, the best way to do all the great destinations in one hit. There can be no other way of doing it and it would have to be the longest itinerary I could find, where you are sailing for well over 100 days.
Maybe I would try and do all 3 to make sure I covered all the places, 1 a year for 3 years sounds good to me…
Thailand – I have always wanted to go to Thailand and travel to certain areas, the first stop would be Chang Mai and the elephant orphanage, as here you get the chance to bathe with them. This has always something that I have wanted to do as I have a real passion for Elephants. As well as explore this beautiful and fascinating country and beaches of paradise.
Alaska – again only way to do this is on a cruise. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves as to why this is a must.
Iceland and the Norwegian Fjords – again best way to to do this is on a cruise. The cost of travelling to these two places alone would be more than the cost of a cruise, especially once you start adding the cost for board and lodgings. At least with a cruise it’s one price and you get to see the destinations you want.
Visit Carmel in California – specifically Doris Day – This one I will have to do sooner rather than later. I love Doris Day and years ago I recall a fan of hers walking up to her house and knocking on the door, she invited him in for tea and they have been friends ever since. Not a stalker but a genuine fan. I would love to have an hour of her time to talk about her films and co stars.
Another one that would be great to fulfill is to have sailed on at least one ship of every cruise liner.
So have you thought yet on your bucket list? Have you completed any of them yet? Would love to know and be great to get other ideas to help me think of more for mine..
