One of the many perks of being a cruise consultant and working for cruise.co, is that we get to experience the cruise ships first hand so we can pass on a wealth of knowledge to our guests. Our director likes to keep on top of the game, especially where technology and the evolving world of social media is our future and we are one of the only agents in the UK that write personal blogs and have Facebook pages to advertise ourselves as agents to the cruise guests all around the UK and Ireland.
One of the things our director and marketing team also want, is first hand photos and videos of every ship we visit, so we have our own catalogue of real footage and not what the cruise lines want us to use for advertising.
For us it’s also a good way of proving we have been on board and can give first hand information without relying on brochures. You will often see us in ‘selfies’ or group pictures enjoying the facilities on board and will always be able to see these via our blogs and Facebook pages. Here is an example of photos that have recently been used in an MSC promotion
If you receive our direct mails and regular emails, then you will often see many of our faces plastered across an offer or brochure, showing us on a particular ship or cruise brand.
Last year our director decided to invest in several Go-Pros, a small video device that can be strapped to the head and record for up to 4 hours at a time. Here is one of my colleagues demonstrating the Go-Pro on a recent ship visit.
Now this does mean that each time we visit a ship or are off on a cruise, we end up with a Go-Pro being delivered to our door with instructions to get as much footage as possible.
I am a complete novice when it comes to things like this, I can just about use my iPhone for photos and videos. One of the draw backs is you cannot see what you have recorded on the device, our IT guys check all that, so I can only apologise to them for having to sit through all the dodgy footage to get something decent from me!
So below is my first attempt at being in charge of the Go-Pro on board my recent trip with Fred. Olsen on the Braemar.
Brace yourselves, because next month I will be sailing on the Royal Princess and will have to do it all again…. sorry IT!
