A bad month for Royal Caribbean

The last couple of weeks have not been good for Royal Caribbean with all the wrong head lines.

Last week a young boy of 16 fell to his death from the Harmony of the Seas whilst in port at the private resort of Labadee. Apparently, the young lad had forgotten his key card to his cabin and was climbing from an 8th-floor balcony to try and reach his balcony cabin next door.  Other passengers onboard the ship watched in horror as the young lad obviously lost his footing and fell on to the concrete pier below. He was pronounced dead at the scene from severe head trauma. Guests who witnessed the accident wrote –  “I was on the cruise and saw him hit the concrete dock. It was around 11:30am. The workers were amazingly fast acting and tried to keep him alive, but I’m pretty sure he was dead on impact. There were also fast acting of removing his body and covering up the area so people wouldn’t see it. Royal Caribbean handled this situation with the most respect for the passenger and the family.”

On Christmas Day a British Crew Member went missing from Harmony of the Seas, unfortunately, he wasn’t found and has now been presumed dead. Suspicion is that he possibly took his own life and jumped from the ship after posting cryptic messages on social media. It seems as though he was last seen onboard via CCTV heading towards the ship’s deck at around 4am. The alarm was raised when he failed to show up in the afternoon for work as a ships dancer. So nothing was done for approx. 10 hours presumably after he went overboard, the ship and US coast guard did all they could for 2 days before calling off the search.  If he did take his own life, then this is very sad that a young man of just 20 was in a bad place in his life and couldn’t see a way out

Sincere condolences to all that knew both these boys and their families.

I would be shocked to hear that Royal Caribbean does not have the correct alarm systems in place to alert them when someone goes overboard or is on the wrong side of the balcony, as I thought all ships had these now? If they had the correct alarms systems in place then maybe these two lives could have been saved? Or maybe they need to upgrade the alarms to be more sensitive?

But then you get an idiot like this man whom last week had friends film him jumping off of the Symphony of the Seas in the Bahamas. In the video, friends watch as he stands on the ledge of what appears to be a cabin balcony before jumping more than 100ft into the water below. According to this idiots Instagram comments, he was brought to shore by a small boat and he and his companions were kicked off the cruise ship and had to make their own way home from the Bahamas. He also wrote that he was still drunk from the previous night when he jumped.

Royal Caribbean condemned the stunt and said it was considering legal action. A spokesperson said: “This was stupid and reckless behaviour, and he and his companions have been banned from ever sailing with us again. We are exploring legal action.”

I personally think he should be banned from all cruise ship liners.
