“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
This is my favourite quote from Mark Twain not just because it epitomises the idea of cruising but it epitomises how I feel we should live our lives.
Every day should be spent exploring, dreaming and discovering new things and 2014 is going to be no different for me so here is my list of things I want to do.
Run 5k and maybe even 10k – as unfit as I am this is top of my list as I want to get healthier in 2014 and like many, a few pounds lost would be good.
Walk Blackpool Towers walk of faith – this is 380 feet high and housed in the world famous Blackpool Tower. I have been up several times but have always chickened out.
Visit Krakow – this has long been a city that I would like to visit because of it’s close proximity to Auschwitz and it’s tumultuous history.
Go glamping – now for anyone that does not know this is a mixture of the words glamour and camping. Apparently there is one of these just up the road from me so watch this space.
Learn to swim – okay yes I am 44 and cannot swim. I even worked on a cruise ship and did my sea survival course and coxswain certificate and still can’t swim. All my children can swim so I definitely need to learn this year.
Have lunch on the Northern Belle with my mum – this is very similar to the Orient Express line and I would love to do the Settle to Carlisle run with my mum, as this would be something that she would love. Mother’s Day maybe!
Whether I manage to do all of these I don’t know but I think we all need to have things to aim for. I will let you know as and when I tick each thing off.
What do you want to achieve this year?
