I have the best job in the world especially when I can escape on a cruise ship for the night. My latest adventure was on board Norwegians newest addition to the fleet, Norwegian Escape. At 165157 gross tonnage and over 4000 passengers she is certainly not a shrinking violet however even at this size I never felt overwhelmed by crowds.
First impressions were good with a very quick check in and I was soon finding my way to my Balcony Cabin by following the fish on the carpet which swim forward towards the front of the ship! I was in cabin 12272 and again I was impressed with the cabin and the slightly larger balcony due to the shape of the ship.
Cabins were well equipped with USB charger integrated in to the lamps near the bed for that all important tablet or phone charging and each cabin had a coffee maker and a mini bar. Norwegian have also done away with the intimate shower curtain that gets up close and friendly when showering and have replaced it with a glass door.
The top cabins on here were amazing called Haven Suites and that’s what they are – a Haven from the rest of the ship. There is your own entrance which only Haven Suite passengers can access with a private lounge and concierge plus private pool deck.
Dining on Norwegian is amazing and they were the ones who originally came up with the idea of Freestyle Dining. In reality this mean that you have the choice of 5 main dining areas that are complimentary and 8 speciality dining areas that incur charges from $24.95 per person upwards.
What I did like about the dining areas was that many of them spilled out on to the open decks as the ship will be primarily sailing in the Caribbean.
There are over 12 bars on board with many of them enjoying entertainment late into the night.
The District Brew House is a new innovation with over 50 different bottled beers and 24 draft beers.
Never got a chance to enjoy a Mojito but the bar area looked stunning as did the Mojito Menu.
Mixx bar was a contemporary cocktail bar which was located just outside Savour and Taste which are two of the complimentary dining venues.
For many years this has been my excuse for drinking at whatever time I want but now Norwegian have immortalised the Jimmy Buffet song by naming a bar after it. I no longer need an excuse as the song says its five o clock somewhere!
And finally if you have kids I spoke to some of my clients whilst I was on board and they had a fab time with their son enjoying the amazing ropes course! Just needed longer to try everything else out!
Questions I always ask myself after a ship visit like this are would I book a cruise on the ship myself and would my kids and hubby enjoy it and the answer to both of those is a resounding yes.
