Are you ready for part two of my fantastic family holiday on board Emerald Princess?
Last blog I covered the accommodation and entertainment areas and this time I would like to cover the bar and entertainment areas.
On board the ship there are over 8 bars, clubs and lounges and each has its own entertainment. As a family the only place we were not permitted to go in was Skywalkers Nightclub which was for 18 years and over however, I am led to believe on our cruise that there were never more than a dozen people in here at any one time!
Wheelhouse Bar Deck 7 Forward
This is also where the Gastro Pub is and on a Sunday where a British pub Sunday Lunch is served. This bar tended to get very busy as it was close to the Princess Theatre and many people tended to use it for pre show drinks. Entertainment was quite low key with usually a solo singer.
Crooners Deck 7 Midship
On other Princess ships I have always tended to frequent this bar as the entertainment is generally good with a good old singalong however on the Emerald there is not a great deal of seating in here so never really used the bar much.
Explorers Lounge Deck 7 Midship
This was our venue of choice and we loved it. During the day various art auctions were held here and in the evening there was always some form of entertainment from Magic Shows to Hand Puppetry. My Dad and I also took part in the Yes/No game in here where you are not allowed to say Yes or No in a 3 minute period. He lasted 16 seconds whilst I managed 2 minutes 57 seconds! The funniest show they did was the Liars club where four members of the entertainment team described a word and the audience had to guess who was telling the truth. Whoever would have known that being callypygion meant you had well shaped buttocks!!
Club Fusion Deck7 Aft
The Club Fusion was our muster station when we first got on board and in the evenings tended to be where the band played and dancing occurred. During the day we attended a few talks in here.
Calypso Bar Deck 15 Midship
The best barman at sea work here and I have to say that Deepak and Bethoven were amazing and looked after us well. The Calypso Bar covered the main pool area and also on evenings when Movies Under the stars was on had a steward service.
Tradewinds Bar Deck 16 Forward
Only used this once on sailaway from Gibraltar but appeared to be a bar where all the smokers hung out at!!
Adagio Bar Deck 16 Aft
Lovely quiet bar for a pre dinner drink with a pianist playing every night.
Princess Theatre
This is the main show lounge onboard anf tended to have two showtimes of 8pm and 10.15pm every night showing production shows with the ships dancers and singers such as Disco-Blame it on the boogie and Magic To Do along with Guests such as Sam Kane (singer and married to Linda Lusardi) and the amazing Ventriloquist,Paul Zerdin.
Finally a Bridge Too Far….
It’s not easy to get a visit to the Bridge and I submitted a request weeks in advance of cruising plus once on board I handed a letter in to the pursers desk requesting permission to visit as my two youngest sons are sea cadets and my middle son, Finally after months of requesting a Bridge visit that ended up with a plea and a letter from Morecambe And Heysham Sea Cadets to the Deck Officers and Captain we did get an invite to the Bridge. Both my youngest boys have been members of the Sea Cadets since they were 9 years old. Logan who is 12 and my middle son wants to become a Deck Officer and has already planned what qualifications he needs.
Here you can see the result of our pleading!
Just a word of warning as this is the view from the Bridge so if you think you are safe for naked sunbathing!! Think again!
About Me
Some people are shopaholics, some are chocaholics and some like me are cruiseaholics! Okay you got me I am also a slight chocoholic as well. I guess my love affair for cruises began in the late 1970's when I used to watch "The Love Boat", which was an American TV…
