Orangutans, the gentle giants of the forest, are remarkable great apes distinguished by their long arms, reddish fur, and thoughtful expressions. Indigenous to the lush rainforests of Borneo, these highly intelligent primates are critical to forest ecosystems.
At Sepilok, visitors can observe these endangered creatures from feeding platforms, witnessing their graceful movements and learning about efforts to protect their natural habitat.
Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre plays a pivotal role in orangutan conservation by rescuing and rehabilitating orphaned and injured orangutans. At any one time, around 25 orphaned orangutans are cared for in the centre's dedicated nursery, and up to 80 orangutans roam in the rainforest reserve.
The centre educates visitors on the importance of aiding these curious creatures and combating illegal wildlife trade. Through these efforts, Sepilok aims to ensure the survival of Borneo's endangered orangutan population.
Teeming with ancient trees, exotic wildlife, and vibrant plant life, the pristine Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve serves as a vital habitat for endangered orangutans and countless other species.
At the Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre, you can learn more about this diverse forest reserve, its tropical ecosystems, and ongoing conservation efforts to protect this unique natural space.
