Zadar Cruises

Nestled along the Adriatic coastline, Zadar sits to the north of popular Croatian ports like Split and Dubrovnik. It offers the perfect blend of old and new with its forward-thinking shops and Roman ruins. Don’t miss its waterfront art installations, the ‘Monument to the Sun’ and ‘Sea Organ’, framed by the sea below. It doesn’t draw the tourist crowds that Dubrovnik does, making Zadar’s Old Town somewhat of a hidden gem with its Roman architecture sandwiched between medieval churches and modern art galleries. It’s easy to explore on foot, making this a comfortably compact port.

Port of Zadar

ZADAR - DID YOU KNOW?

You won’t be able to miss the Monument to the Sun as you’re cruising into Zadar’s port. This public art installation catches and reflects the light beautifully, made with plates of glass. It sits next to the Sea Organ, which plays around with sound to beautifully natural ambient effect. The Sea Organ was unveiled in 2005, designed to work with the waves as they come crashing in to make pipe music.

Zadar’s Old Town is built up around the Roman Forum, framed by stone walls that date back to the 16th century. Take a look at the medieval gates set up by the Venetians, who once ruled the city. You’ll see the Venetian lion on the Land Gate! There are plenty of churches to explore in this area as well, including a Benedictine Monastery, Saint Anastasia’s Cathedral, and the Church of Saint Donat.

Cuisine in Zadar is typical to what you’d find anywhere along the Dalmatian coast. Expect plenty of freshly caught seafood, particularly octopus and calamari! Visit traditional restaurants like Konoba Skoblar in Old Town, with dishes cooked under an iron bell. There’s an Italian influence here as well with fresh squid ink pasta and wood-fired pizza available. And don’t forget to cool down with a gelato.
