What You Need To Know About San Francisco

What are the can’t-miss sights in San Francisco?

Start your day out in San Francisco at Fisherman’s Wharf, for great views across the bay towards Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge (both of which are well worth a visit). One of the greatest pleasures of San Francisco is simply walking around its different neighbourhoods and soaking in the atmosphere, from the dim sum houses of Chinatown to the art galleries and taquerias of the Mission District. Pier 39 includes an aquarium, Venetian carousel, and dozens of resident sea lions to keep you entertained! Visit the Ghirardelli chocolate factory and hop on a cable car for a historic ride over the city’s epic hills.

How can you reach San Francisco from the cruise terminal?

You’ll dock at the Embarcadero, which offers a very central location for exploring the city. Most ships dock at Pier 27, but some will dock a few blocks away at Pier 35. Both terminal areas are within walking distance from Fisherman’s Wharf as well as Pier 39 with all its attractions and popular food hall. Exploring on foot is a great way to get the feel of San Francisco’s character-filled neighbourhoods, but you can also get around by public bus, cable car, or trolley. Taxis are also readily available at the terminal – you’ll see them parked on the street when you disembark.

Parking facilities around the cruise terminal

There’s public parking on hand at Brannan and the Embarcadero, offering immediate access to the piers. South Beach Harbour visitors can park for a short-term period in Pier 40’s visitor lot, located at Townsend and the Embarcadero. Take care in this area – you’ll see other parking lots, but many of these are permit-only for workers at the piers. If you park without a permit inside Pier 40 you may find your car has been towed away! For those renting cars, there are rental desks in the city centre where you can pick up your vehicle.
