Lisbon Cruises

Ocean-fresh seafood, pastel-coloured buildings and a hilly cityscape give Lisbon its distinct appeal. This Portuguese port is spread out over seven hills, with terraces giving way to sweeping views over the city unfolding below. These terraced viewpoints are called miradouros, a top spot for morning espresso or evening sangria. There’s a modern energy to Lisbon seen in its buzzing nightlife and contemporary art scene, with laid-back beaches and floral gardens to add a touch of tranquillity. Explore famous landmarks like the Belem Tower and Sau Jorge Castle, or soak up the sun in Estoril.

What You Need To Know About Lisbon

What are the can’t-miss sights in Lisbon?

To see the historic side of Lisbon, venture to the Alfama quarter. It’s the city’s oldest, with Moorish architecture and narrow cobblestoned lanes to explore. Around this area, you’ll find the famous Castle of St George which was constructed in the 10 th century. From its stately grounds, you can admire the view across the Baixa district and Tagus River. Additional historic buildings include the Igreja de Santa Engracia with its elegant marble interiors, as well as Lisbon Cathedral. Go shopping in the Baixa District around Rossio Square, where shops feature graceful art nouveau fronts. Visit the Calouste Gulbenkian Museum, or take a twisting, turning ride on the tiny Tram 28!

How can you reach Lisbon from the cruise terminal?

There are two main cruise terminals in Porto, the Alcantara and modern Santa Apolonia ports. You can take a shuttle bus to the central Praca do Comercio square near the riverfront, with most tourist attractions within easy walking distance from there. If you dock at Santa Apolonia, you’ll also find the Blue Line Metro right across the street. Hop aboard and you’ll reach the city centre in just two stops. If you wish to head out of town to the beaches of Estoril or Cascais, take a train from Cais do Sodre station down the waterfront.

Parking facilities around the cruise terminal

Planning on parking in Lisbon? There’s a public parking garage right next to the pier to make it easy for you! Driving and parking in the old city streets can require some skill, due to the hilly landscape and tight curves. This makes street parking scarce, so do look for underground car parks when you’re driving into town. If you’re lucky enough to score on-street parking, note that there are three colour- coded zones with different rates and maximum stay times. Green zones allow you to park for four hours, at the lowest rates, while red zones have a maximum stay of just two hours.

LISBON - DID YOU KNOW?

Lisbon is a real dream come true for foodies, with its trendy bistros and traditional taverns to choose from. Locally reared beef is also served simply and deliciously, while the international cuisine options are quite extensive. Bairro Alto is the place to go for a taste of Lisbon’s nightlife. In the evening, these sleepy streets transform into an open-air party, with a blend of sleek wine bars, student hotspots and posh nightclubs. Many of the city’s most interesting restaurants are located here as well! Have a wander down the Tagus River and you’ll reach Belem, a town with a charm all its own. Explore the cultural district with its parks and museums like the Maritime Museum and Archeologic Museum, as well as the 16 th -century Torre de Belem with its maritime carvings. Do you fancy a day at the beach? Hop on the train to Cascais or Estoril with their laid-back resort vibes. Estoril is also notable for being home to the inspiration for the Casino Royale in James Bond – the Estoril Casino. Spend the night here soaking in the old-fashioned glamour and trying out your luck!
