Koh Samui Cruises

When you picture paradise, it probably looks something like Ko Samui. This Thai island ticks all the boxes – soft, powdery sands and warm, crystal-clear waves. The beautiful water draws scuba diving and snorkelling enthusiasts, while the luxurious spas draw in those looking for a more relaxing way to spend the day. There’s a beach for everyone here, whether it’s the Chaweng Beach for beautiful sunrises, Mae Nam for secluded tranquillity, or Coco Tam’s for fruity cocktails with friends. After a day on the beach, treat yourself to an herbal steam treatment or massage in a lush spa.

What You Need To Know About Koh Samui

What are the can’t-miss sights in Koh Samui?

Koh Samui’s beaches are its star attraction, but you’ll find other activities and sights to keep you busy! Head into the island’s rainforest interior to see magnificent waterfalls like Na Muang, which are the island’s tallest. Wat Phra Yai is a must-see temple famed for its massive golden statue of Buddha, and if you manage the steps you’ll be rewarded with sweeping ocean views. The island’s natural beauty can be explored on a trip into the Ang Thong National Marine Park, and its wildlife at attractions like the Samui Butterfly Garden, Monkey Theatre or Samui Aquarium and Tiger Zoo.

How can you reach Koh Samui from the cruise terminal?

The cruise terminal is located at Nathon on the island, although there’s not much of a terminal to speak of – you’ll walk off the pier and basically be right in the centre of town with all the amenities you need. Stroll for about three blocks and you’ll arrive at a beach. The town is very walkable, but if you want to get out and explore the rest of Ko Samui, you’ll need to hire a taxi or tour company. There are loads at the pier waiting to greet cruise ships, so you can take your pick! Just remember that prices are negotiable here and it’s expected that you’ll bargain.

When is the best time to visit Koh Samui?

This lush island is warm throughout the year, with average temperatures ranging from 28 to 32 degrees. That means you can visit at any time and enjoy a spot of beach-y weather! Hours of sunshine do vary, but you don’t have to worry about the monsoon season like you would in other parts of Thailand. However, there is a unique rainy season that takes place between October and December, so the best time to visit is when this ends between December and April. The peak season’s in January when the island’s at its best!

KOH SAMUI - DID YOU KNOW?

In addition to Wat Phra Yai, you can explore additional temples dotted throughout the island, each with its own unique architecture, artwork and heritage. If you’re after something a bit unusual, try visiting Wat Khunaram with its mummified monk sitting in lotus position. Wat Plai Laem is surrounded by a lake with colourful fish you can feed.

Balance your chakras, align your energy, or simply fight stress with a visit to one of Samui’s abundant spa facilities. A traditional Thai massage is a true treat, merging gentle pressure and movement to leave your muscles feeling utterly relaxed. Another unique treatment here is a fish pedicure, where little fish eat away the dead skin from your feet!

The cuisine on Koh Samui is fresh from the sea, served up with fiery chilli and fragrant herbs. Do you want to pick up a few recipes to bring back home with you? Why not take a class at the Samui Institute of Culinary Arts? This is a great way for foodies to spend the afternoon, teaching you to prepare utterly authentic Thai curries.

Pick up a souvenir or two in the island’s coconut plantations, which are carved by locals into intriguing, whimsical shapes or elegant serving bowls. Look for high-quality Thai silks, floaty beach clothing, and intricate basket weaving.
