White sandy beaches, rum distilleries, and UNESCO World Heritage sites… Barbados ticks all the boxes when it comes to a top holiday in the Caribbean! This island may be petite, but it is jam-packed with gorgeous scenery and beautiful beaches. Visit historic plantations, vibrant botanical gardens, or bustling harbours in the capital city of Bridgetown and beyond. Barbados is a popular destination with foodies, due to the blend of Creole soul food and impeccably fresh seafood. Take it easy with a lounging session on the beach, or go swimming with sea turtles in the balmy waters offshore.
Barbados’s amazing beaches are reason enough to visit the island, but if you wish to explore there’s loads to see and do. From pirate-themed entertainment to UNESCO World Heritage sites like the George Washington house, you’re sure to find something to suit your interests. Visit the Banks Brewery to see how this popular beer is made, or enter Welchman Hall Gully to see playful green monkeys. Chattel Village is a historic area in Holetown famed for its vibrantly painted shops, where you’ll find everything from cigars to beachwear for sale. Take your afternoon tea at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion, or stroll around Hunte’s Gardens to unwind.
The main cruise terminal in Barbados is conveniently located just a mile to the west of Bridgetown’s town centre, making it easy to get in and around the island. It will only take you about twenty minutes to walk into Bridgetown, or there are mini-bus shuttles if you prefer. Although Bridgetown’s attractions will keep you busy, you can get out and explore the rest of the island with the extensive public bus system serving the south and west coasts. Look for ZR mini vans with ‘ZR’ on the license plate to enjoy a mini-bus experience with the locals, or hop in a taxi at the port terminal.
Barbados offers warm, sunny weather throughout the year, making it popular in all seasons. The peak travel season takes place between December and April, when the sun is shining and there’s little rain in the forecast. However, be sure to book early if you plan to visit during this time period because accommodation and cruise reservations fill up quickly! Although the hurricane season falls between August and October, Barbados is far enough east that it rarely suffers a direct hit, so you generally won’t have to worry about avoiding the bigger storms.
The island is really beautiful and is home to some of the best beaches in the Caribbean as well as having a Unesco World Heritage listed capital.

Do you want to know where that delicious rum comes from? Visit the Mount Gay Rum bottling plant, which offers tasting sessions and tours to whet your whistle. If you have more time, get out into the island’s interior to see the sugar cane fields and botanical gardens.
