What are the can’t-miss sights in Barbados?
Barbados’s amazing beaches are reason enough to visit the island, but if you wish to explore there’s loads to see and do. From pirate-themed entertainment to UNESCO World Heritage sites like the George Washington house, you’re sure to find something to suit your interests. Visit the Banks Brewery to see how this popular beer is made, or enter Welchman Hall Gully to see playful green monkeys. Chattel Village is a historic area in Holetown famed for its vibrantly painted shops, where you’ll find everything from cigars to beachwear for sale. Take your afternoon tea at the Fairmont Royal Pavilion, or stroll around Hunte’s Gardens to unwind.
How can you reach Barbados from the cruise terminal?
The main cruise terminal in Barbados is conveniently located just a mile to the west of Bridgetown’s town centre, making it easy to get in and around the island. It will only take you about twenty minutes to walk into Bridgetown, or there are mini-bus shuttles if you prefer. Although Bridgetown’s attractions will keep you busy, you can get out and explore the rest of the island with the extensive public bus system serving the south and west coasts. Look for ZR mini vans with ‘ZR’ on the license plate to enjoy a mini-bus experience with the locals, or hop in a taxi at the port terminal.
When’s the best time to visit Barbados?
Barbados offers warm, sunny weather throughout the year, making it popular in all seasons. The peak travel season takes place between December and April, when the sun is shining and there’s little rain in the forecast. However, be sure to book early if you plan to visit during this time period because accommodation and cruise reservations fill up quickly! Although the hurricane season falls between August and October, Barbados is far enough east that it rarely suffers a direct hit, so you generally won’t have to worry about avoiding the bigger storms.

Whether you fancy a lazy day in the sun with a good book or an action-packed day of water sports and surfing, Barbados offers a wide range of beaches to choose from.
