Guest speakers on cruises

I wonder how important guest speakers or celebrities are on cruises?  Do they really make people want to book that particular cruise because of who is on there?  I think it must all depend on who the speaker or celebrity is.  I remember when P&O announced classic singer Russell Watson was to perform on 2 cruises this year, it certainly worked and within a very short space of time the cruise was sold out, the same when they announced Katherine Jenkins was performing on 2 cruises in October and November of this year.  I remember when I went on the QE2, back in 1996 ( I think it was that year) Jim Bowen was a performer.  I have to admit not my ideal celebrity and of course only being 22 thought I would much prefer Take That, but he was extremely funny, even to this day my husband remembers some of his jokes (maybe I shouldn’t admit that)!!  Did you know ever since Prince Charles became QE2’s first passenger more than 30 years ago she has hosted more famous faces than any other ship in service.

Today Crystal have announced that part of their 2014 World Voyage they have Edwina Currie, Sue MacGregor and Ken Rees.  The first name that jumped out was Edwina Currie, all I remember about her was the egg fury and my mom never having a good word to say about her, naïve I know but I was only about 14 years old.  She was actually on a TV programme my daughter watches called Big Star, Little Star, didn’t really come across as a women with a great personality but with very high morals and points of views, maybe she might be more interesting than what I think.  Ken Rees has been a guest speaker with Crystal before and seems to have a good following of people, I understand each type of cruise line will attract a certain type of celebrity.  In the past we have advertised cruises with Alan Titchmarsh as a guest lecturer, a firm favourite for a lot of people.

I think one of my favourite celebrities to hear sing n a cruise ship would be Michael Buble, fantastic voice and such a great presence about him..I would be interested to hear about other celebrities that you may have cruised with, good and bad!
