Formal nights…. a thing of the past

Well it seems that traditional style cruising is becoming less and less as Celebrity swaps from formal nights to evening chic.

The new dress code is dressier then the “smart casual” attire recommended for most evenings but less dressy than formal attire.  Of course this decision wasn’t taken lightly, but Celebrity feel that the evolving passenger mix will enable passengers to express their own sense of sophistication.  Guests are still wanting and will still experience great food and great service, but in a more relaxed, casual way.  This is all down to each individual , some will still want to dress up in a tuxedo or gown, where another may feel more elegant in a sport jacket and designer jeans.  There will still be rules to follow, no ripped jeans, shorts or t-shirts will be allowed in the restaurants.

Personally I think this is going to make it even more difficult to know what to pack.

As well as a change in the dress code other traditions are changing.  Sparkling wine at the Captain’s Reception will no longer be de rigeur: instead drinks will depend on your cruise destination (still free).  So if you are sailing in the Caribbean you might be treated to a cocktail, the Mediterranean – Bellinis might be passed around.  Don’t worry though sparkling wine will still be available!

Also on formal evenings the forever popular Captains table will be expanded.  Officers with three stripes and above will also host a table, so this may include the hotel director or guest relations manager.  This will give clients more opportunity to wine and dine with officers.

This change will take into effect on all sailings beginning on or after December 4.
