US basketball team pushes the boat out at the Rio Olympics…

So it seems all’s not good at the Olympic Village for the athletes in Rio, with reports of dirty bathrooms, clogged toilets and exposed wires, sounds as though things need to improve before the games start next week, but some athletes won’t have to stay there.  The US men’s and women’s basketball teams are actually staying on a luxury cruise ship.  In fact (i didn’t know this), but the basketball squads stay away from the Olympic village as the players are so high profile (also a 6ft 10 inch person is easy to spot), in actual fact the US basketball haven’t  stayed in the Olympic Village since 1992.

So the Silver Cloud, operated by Silversea cruises will be housing the US basketball team.  The Luxury 296 capacity ship, that charges £10,000 a week to rent is going to provide ultra luxury accommodation and fine dining rather than the basic furnishing and shared rooms of the Athletes Village. The ship even though she holds only 296 is very spacious yet intimate, all suites have either an ocean view or private verandas with stunning dining options

Its not the first time the US basketball team have stayed on a luxury ship, back in 2004 at the Athens Olympics they stayed on the Queen Mary 2.

Also the NCL Getaway is heading to Rio between now and September and will also house athletes, nothing new for this amazing ship as she also proudly served at the Bud Light Hotel during 2014’s Super Bowl in New York.

I’m away during the first part of the Olympics on the new Carnival Vista, lets hope while i’m catching a few rays, drinking my Pina Colada I can enjoy the Olympics on the big screen by the pool…

So lets hope it a good 2016 Olympics for Great Britain!
