I have recently just got back from a lovely 7 night holiday in Kemer, Turkey. Yep, still not done a cruise with the family yet but come the end of August that will not be the case, for half of them anyway.
Whilst I was away sunning it up in plus 30 degrees sunshine the UK and more specifically Standard was getting hit, literally by the weather. Stansted airport fuel tankers got struck by lightning.
An event that had quite a domino effect.
A friend text us on the day of our departure to let us know our flight was 2 hours 10 minutes delayed, due to delays refueling our flight that was flying from the UK to Turkey, then another text whilst transferring to the airport, now 2 hours 40 minutes.
So now it is 8pm, we are at the airport for our 10.30pm flight that is delayed to 01.10am. At 11.50pm the flight update has changed, we are now delayed until 04.25!!! At 04.30 an announcement, ‘Passengers for Flight to Standard, please make your way to the gate for check-in’ woop woop, finally going home.
Nope, at 6am an airport official tells us that the flight is now cancelled and there is no information as to when the flight will be re-scheduled!!! Fortunately my 6 and 7 year olds have had 5 hours sleep on the chairs and are behaving exceptionally well, unlike some of the adults who through their frustration are speaking to airport and flight officials in a way they would not appreciate should someone be speaking to them in the same manner.
By 7am everyone on the flight have found themselves ferried to the Royal Seginus Hotel in Lara, this is a Deluxe hotel and boy it was amazing.
1st call was to the restaurant for breakfast, the choice of food was incredible and quality was top notch. Then onto our room, it was huge. i got 2 hours sleep, woke up and the kids and the other half where all crashed out so I went for a walk, a latte and maybe 1 or 2 lovely pastries.
By now the kids are awake and we hit the pool and waterpark, we had already been at a hotel with a waterpark but this waterpark was, well Deluxe.
The snack bar choice of food and quality was as good as a decent high street restaurant in town, needless to say I tried plenty of it, well I knew I would not be here for long which turned out to be the case.
At 2pm an announcement was made, we were getting picked up at 5pm for a 8.10pm flight back home.
Thomas Cook, although not at fault for the delays pulled out all the stops for getting us into a great hotel, the 8th day turned out to be a great bonus.
So back to the airport, the flight was delayed by 20 minutes but we were onboard and ready to go, or so we thought, after almost 24 hours delay 1 passenger managed to miss the boarding calls, we waited for another 30 minutes before he boarded solo and of course by now the flight has missed its slot, another 30 minutes and it’s 9.30pm and we are now taking off.
What i do know is that I will be going to a hotel in Lara in the future and quite possibly the Royal Seginus.
