Viking on the ‘Grow’ again!

Viking River Cruises is one of the biggest operators on the Rivers of Europe and beyond but now they are taking to the oceans with Viking Ocean Cruises, operating from just 2015 they are one of the newest ocean going fleets on the water however they have been extremely popular and sold incredible well.

I have yet to experience or step on board a Viking Ocean ship but having had past guests do, they have always commented on how stunning the ships are, they have a real Scandinavian feel to them.

At the moment, they have the Viking Star and the Viking Sea with the Viking Sun and Viking Sky coming out this year, then the Viking Spirit in 2018, and with what was thought to be just on more un-named vessel due in 2020.

In recent weeks, Viking have made another announcement that these 6 sisters will gain another 2-sisters making a total of 8 vessels under the Viking Oceanview Cruises fleet. The pace which is struggling to be kept by other cruise lines, Oceania which would be seen as competition for Viking, again another fairly new cruise line whom this year will celebrate its 15^th Year have just 6 Ships, 4 of which are from a past life, Viking have invested millions in brand new vessels and I think it really shows! They also benefit from the sought-after name they have built from years of cruising on the Rivers, but I wonder if this sudden announcement of new ships is too fast, after all on the rivers, its normal for when ships are christened that there are 4 or 5 river boats being done at the same time.

Now only however have Viking agreed to 2 new ships to join the fleet, these is an option for two more on top – taking the fleet in to double numbers – 10 ships – more than P&O, Cunard, and the other luxury brands have, meaning they can do more destinations and offer more experiences to their guests.
