Royal Caribbean accused of sexism….

This morning I received an email from Travel Weekly which is one of the travel magazines that people that work in the travel industry receive, it contains information and news from the four corners of the globe.

Anyway the Title of the page was – ‘Could you be the Godmother of Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas?’ This got me thinking why it is always Godmother, why could a ship not have a Godfather? Or if they wanted to be greedy, have one of each!

Now should a cruise line decide to do this they could really play on the fact that this is the first time it’s been done, a moment in history, one could say a bit like when women got the vote! I may be pushing it a little far there but this is something I think could be changed, after all, in this day and age one could class it as being a little sexist!

Anyone who is anyone has been a cruise ship godmother from Dame Helen Mirren to Her Majesty the Queen, Whoop Goldberg to everyday Heroes but it has always been a women.

So for Anthem of the Seas, what is required for the Godmother?, in-keeping with the name she will have to perform a Specially Selected Song – Anthems Anthem at the exclusive naming ceremony in Southampton and at one of the Travel Agents awards later in the year – To me that’s the worst bit!

But she will also get fantastic prices including a full makeover for the ceremony, Music coaching and tips from Fashion Experts, I would imagine the winner will be inundated with the top fashion designers wanting their clothes to be seen on the Godmother, and the top gift is an Exclusive seven night cruise in the luxury of Anthems Royal Ship.

Royal Caribbean UK managing director Stuart Leven said: “This is another wow moment for our agency partners. We want to give an agent the chance to not only grab 15 minutes of fame, but to be part of history.”

The song choice for Anthem’s Anthem will be one of the below,

Angels by Robbie Williams

One Day Like This by Elbow

Firework by Katy Perry

It’s a Beautiful Day by U2

Paradise by Coldplay

Make You Feel my Love by Adele

Diamonds by Rihanna

What would be your choice?

But if Royal Caribbean really want to make history then why not break traditional and let a man have a go at this very special job, after all we are living in the 21st Century!

What do you think?
