How clean are cruise ships

We al expect cruise lines to be clean and I know from time to time some passengers get ill while away but I always but this down to the air conditioning and if someone has got on board while they still have a cough or a cold then its bound to be passed round the ship to other passengers but I would have never guessed what I’ve read today especially from a P&O ship.

Every cruise has to have an inspection especially if they go to America so both Oceana and the Oriana both had inspections with one passing and the other not. the ship that passed was Oriana and Oceana failing on quite a lot of things. To meet withy standards they have to score 86 out of 100 and Oceana only scored 82.

Oceana’s swimming and spa pools were shut down by health inspectors, who found they had not been disinfected and contained insufficient levels of chlorine and bromine in the water

Kitchen conditions were marked down, too with the report noting the tile grout in the soap kitchen was soiled and in disrepair while nine fruit flies were observed.

Staff came under fire when one was noted to have suffered symptoms of acute gastroenteritis, which went unreported for over two hours.

When a ship receives a low grade, it is typically re-inspected within 30 to 45 days, if the ship is still sailing in US  waters , unless the violations pose an imminent health risk, the ship is permitted to continue sailing the ship is also required to submit a corrective action report the CDC does not have one on file from Oceana yet.

I found this very worrying that a cruise line  can let things slip so much and from a big company like P&O and wonder if they will get this sorted out or now as its left America they won’t get these things sorted. Oriana passed with a score of 90 out of 100
