P&O have announced the order of another new ship scheduled for 2022.
They now have 2 huge new ships on order that are being specifically built for the UK market.
We have very few details so far other than they will have a passenger capacity of 5200 and are being built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg Germany.
Britannia is currently the largest ship in their fleet with a passenger capacity of 3647.
Britannia hasn’t been hugely popular for P&O with quite negative feedback from regular P&O guests. They find the ship too big and difficult to navigate round particularly around the main atrium area. I am sure P&O will have taken the criticism on board and will not make the same mistake with these 2 new vessels.
At this size they will be competing with the likes of Royal Caribbean and MSC and will hopefully attract new customers to the brand. I think they will be too big for the traditional cruisers.
I really think they also need to introduce a drinks package. They are one of the few cruise lines now that don’t have an option to purchase a drinks package. This size ship will appeal to younger generation and families and they all want the security of a drinks package and without this I think would still choose other lines instead if this option isn’t available to them.
I am cruising in the summer with my family and I made sure to have a drinks package before confirming otherwise the costs would soon mount up especially for a family of 4.
All inclusive holidays are so popular now and cruises are no different
P&O are very reasonable for drinks compared to the American ships but it is still an extra cost and people want to know exactly how much their holiday is costing without getting a nasty shock at the end when your bar bill arrives.
Lets hope this is something they will introduce soon to bring them in line with everyone else.
