Mystery Cruises and on-board ballots for ports of call!

Do you normally book your cruise based on the itinerary?  I know that would have a significant impact on my choice of cruise as well as the ship and dates.  Fred Olsen are mixing things up a bit however create excitement and mystery around their cruises.  Here are a few examples of what their passengers have to look forward to:

‘You Choose Your Cruise’

On 29 May 2018 Fred Olsen’s ship ‘Braemar’ is doing a 14-night Baltic cruise with a twist.  The passengers get to choose between ports of call!  The ones to choose between are:

Amsterdam OR Rotterdam

Copenhagen OR Hundested

Tallin or Saaremaa

Helsinki OR Kotka

Wismar or Travemunde

This allows passengers to choose on-board between the major ports and some that are lesser-known, and they may not have visited before by way of a ballot with the votes and port announcements being made on-board.  The only confirmed port is St Petersburg overnight and Kiel Canal transit.

I think this is a great idea, but it does beg the question would you be disappointed if your port wasn’t picked?  I think with some of those destinations I have a favourite so would be a bit upset.  For some cruisers who have visited both destinations though this could be exciting!

Mystery Cruising

On 29th March 2018 ‘Boudicca’ is sailing out of Dover for 5 nights for a ‘Easter Mystery’ cruise.  The customers don’t know any of the ports of call, these will be announced by the captain upon arrival to keep customers guessing.  This cruise has sold-out, so this concept must be a popular one.

I must say I will be looking out for reviews on these cruises as am intrigued as to where they end up going and passenger’s experiences!  Have you or would you go on a similar cruise?  How did you find it?  I’d love to hear some feedback!
