Azamara Ports of Call.

I had such an amazing time on the Azamara Journey I do not want to stop telling you about it. Now we all book cruises for different reasons. Some for the ship, some the food and entertainment but mostly for the ports of call. With Azamara being a 600 guest Cruise Ship she can get closer to the prettier ports without long road transfers. She also has the most evening and overnight stays to enable you to see the port in a different light. Most places turn even more magical and romantic once the heat of the day subsides and the sun goes down.

Sorrento was our first call. I have been to Naples a few times now but never managed to actually do the drive or transfer along the Amalfi Coast to see what this very Cosmopolitan Town as to offer. WOW I loved it !!tendered into sirr
We were tendered just off the coast with the Isle of Capri on one side and Sorrento the other. Breathtaking. A short stroll and alot of steps took us from the port up right into the heart of the town. What a viewsorrento
The winding streets filled with lovely shops and bars were very classy and it had a upmarket feel. Churches were tucked away in side streets but once inside were beautiful. You probably know this is not a beach resort but the many hotels have purpose built swimming and sun bathing areas along the Sea front.sun plateform
This was one of our stops that we stayed way into the evening so after an early dinner we were tendered back into town to attend the Azamazing Evening in the local Town Hall hosted by Azamara a complimentary excursion of culture. This was the Opera, now I must admit I am more a Donny Osmond fan but again I was wowed by the whole event. From the methodical manner of getting 600 passengers tendered to shore, coached to the Town Hall, greeted by the Eric the Cruise Director with a glass of champagne and seated ready to be entertained was carried out with ease and not a glitch.

Amalfi. Another little Italian Town of wonder, however we were so close to Positano and I had seen so many pictures of this in travel brochures this was were Zara and I headed once we reached the pretty port. A ferry ride of around 40 minutes packed like sardines and costing 8 euros each way was well worth it. A very small resort so people were everywhere we found the view from the sea a better option so have a look a these.positposit beach
A maze of tiny streets all uphill but the best choice of linen clothes I had ever seen and very reasonable prices. Exclusive art galleries and pottery workshops along with so many places to eat fresh fresh. After a few hours we headed back to Amalfi as we did not want to miss that either.
By now I could see why the Amalfi Coast attracts the jet set along millions of holiday makers each year. Bliss. This is the main Square with the Cathedral and a maze of streets to stroll around.amalfi
On our return to the Azamara Journey we were talking to fellow passengers who had actually booked their cruise with us at Cruise.Co.UK and thank goodness loved everything about the holiday so far. They had been round the other side of Amalifi to Ravello which also sounded beautiful and a lot quieter but we could not fit everything in.

Next time Taormina, Mykonos and Santorini.
