Cruise line cover up?

On talking to a client who has just returned from a cruise in booked for them, I was disturbed to find that I think this client was part of a cover up!

The cruise line, which will be name less confined my client to his cabin for 24 hours with suspected gastroenteritis.

Now my client said he had eaten muscles from the Lido buffet the day before and he suspected food poisoning was the cause for the illness.

Now, I contracted the nasty gastroenteritis when I worked on board when I was in South America however I was confined to my cabin for 72 hours, which is the allotted time anyone is confined for to allow the bug to dissipate.

My client had to miss a port of call because of this.  He was given the injection to calm the stomach but after 24 hours he felt fine and was allowed to enjoy the rest of the cruise.

Were the cruise line being cautious? Or did they not want to be associated with a food poisoning case?  Did they make up that it was gastroenteritis so nothing was said?

There is no way to prove this I guess but when a ship has the nasty gastroenteritis it is a major worry in case it spreads, however on the other hand would you cruise on a ship which had a bout of food poisoning on board?

The jury is out on this one!
