Relaxing day at Sea on Britannia

Walking on to Britannia during its Inaugural Celebrations last week, it wasn’t the Starburst that made me go wow (although it is nice), it wasn’t the atrium, or my balcony cabin (which I did think seemed smaller than the other ships balcony cabins – inside and on the balcony) but for me my wow was the Thermal Suite located on deck 5 within the Oasis Spa.

Now I am not a big fan of going to the spa or paying the prices on board for the treatments, and you will often see me trying to dodge the staff as they wander around giving out the leaflets or trying to persuade you to have a massage. However when I took the tour of the spa and saw the Thermal Suite, I knew this is what me and mum should book up and do on our sea day afternoon.

For the day pass it cost £25 per person an this gave us up to 6 hours use of the Thermal Suite. Located within the Thermal Suite was the beautiful Hydrotherapy pool which was the main draw to the room, there was also waterbeds to lie on as well as the heated beds,  a sauna, a mild sauna (I don’t think this was working when we were in there), a steam room as well as different showers. You could choose to go in the Tropical Shower with a mango scent, the Scottish Lavender shower which gave you 10 seconds cold and then 10 seconds warm water and was repeated for about a minute, or there was the fog mist shower.

Whilst we were in there, there was about 10 other people but it didn’t feel busy at all. The only downside was, as you would expect on a pre-maiden cruise the pool kept breaking so an engineer had to be called about every 1 and a half hours, so hopefully they will have sorted this by now.

You can buy daily passes and there is a limit to the number they allow in or you can purchase a pass for the duration of your cruise. The lady who showed me around seemed to think it would be approx £100 per person for a week. We found this was money well spent and my mum is looking to book the weekly pass when she returns to Britannia in April to sail to the Fjords.

For me the disappointment was the changing rooms which were very small and cramped and to be honest not enough room to get changed in, so we found after using the Thermal suite we had to wear our dressing gowns and flip flops (supplied by the spa) and go to our room to change. Luckily we we not far from the front lifts as I wouldn’t have wanted to walk the length of the corridors to get to my cabin dressed like that.

Do you avoid the Spa girls? or do you book to go into have treatments or use the thermal suite?
