QM2 to be remastered

Cunard have announced this week what the QM2’s remastered new look will be, when she goes in for her refurbishment for 25 days in May this year. The aim of the refurbishment is to make sure that Cunard remain grounded about all that remains great in British luxury and refinement, while understanding the needs of today’s luxury traveler.  David Noyes the CEO of Cunard has said – This is the most significant refurbishment that Carnival Corp UK has ever undertaken. Queen Mary 2 is an iconic ship. It is 12 years old and now is the right time for us to invest in the ship to reaffirm its iconic status.

So just what is planned for the QM2:

  • Great news for single travellers as there will be 15 single cabins added to the ship
  • There will be an additional 30 Britannia Club balcony cabins, they will refurbish all the existing Britannia Club Balconies and they will be expanding the Britannia Club restaurant.
  • Half of the Britannia Balcony staterooms will be refurbished during the dry dock, with all of the Britannia staterooms refurbished during 2016- 2017.
  • There will be 10 new kennels built and also an inside play area
  • The Todd English restaurant is going to be replaced with the Verandah restaurant with a new Contemporary, premium French cuisine menu
  • The buffet restaurant – Kings Court is going to have a complete overhaul to make it more open service are as there will be central serving stations. A variety of cuisine will be available from Italian, Indian, Pan Asian and Tex Mex menus on a rotating basis.
  • The Winter Garden is going to be replaced with the Carinthia Lounge and will serve light breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and evening drinks.
  • The Grills Suites will all receive a make over with a new look such as carpets and new furnishings which will have subtle references to Cunard’s unrivalled heritage.

I liked the QM2 as a ship when I have sailed on her but found the service on other ships to be better, so whilst Cunard might be spending a lot on this refurbishment – will the service be any better than now? and will the Britannia Cabins vs the Grill Suites be more apparent when the ship has been remastered?

I am now off on the Ventura for a weeks cruise so will report back how my trip went next time

Kerry
