So as you are reading this post I will be in Marseille exploring the sights and hopefully in the sunshine. I am now half way through my cruise on the Crown Princess and will have already called in at Barcelona, Corsica, Rome, Florence/Pisa and Genoa. Then after today we will just have Gibraltar to go before coming back to hopefully a sunny Southampton.
Our plans before we left were to do the hop on hop off bus in Barcelona before then heading for walk down the Ramblas, in Corsica we were going to just get a map from the tourist information centre and explore the island. We have tours booked in Rome and Florence/Pisa as these cities are an hour away from the port, and then in Genoa we were going to wait for the port talk on board to see what to do.
We have booked our two tours through the company we recommend as an alternative to the cruise lines own tours – www.cruising.excursions.com (I did compare them to the tours Princess Cruises were offering but they were more expensive and didn’t cover as much)
So in Rome we are doing the following tour The complete Tour essential collection which is an 8 hour tour and which will see us on a walking tour to see the outside of the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Pantheon, Piazza Navona and St Peter’s square which is home to St Peter’s Basilica. We will also get some free time.
In Livorno (the port of Florence and Pisa) – as Nick hasn’t been here before but I have we have chosen to do the Picturesque Pisa and Famous Florence essential collection tour. This is an 8 and a half hours tour and we go to the Piazza dei Miracoli where we see the leaning tower and try to take the obligatory photo of us pretending to push the Leaning Tower of Pisa up, and then on to Florence where we see the Santa Maria Del Flore Cathedral. Giotto’s Bell tower and the Piazza della Repubblica and again have free time.
If you have a cruise booked and looking for excursions then head to cruising excursions to take a look what they can offer or call your consultant who will be happy to help you book these. They offer the same guarantee as the cruise lines that they will get you back for the ships departure.
I am hoping as this blog has been pre-written – that we have had glorious weather and a great time so far.
Will update you with my review of the Crown Princess on my return
Have a good couple of weeks
