I did Race for Life

I have wanted to do Race for Life for about 3 years now, but have always thought I couldn’t do it. So on Saturday 23rd July, my Slimming World group had their Race for Life and which I am pleased to say I took part in (and dragged my dad and Brother-in-Law to join me) There was about 20 of us that took part and we set off at 11am at the start of a walking trail called Centurion way in Chichester, and which goes up through Lavant – which is where some people turned round and walked back, but we decided to walk to the end of the trail which finishes in West Dean and the total distance from start to finish was 6.7 miles. As it was very hot on Saturday the majority of us decided rather than try to run the course we would walk.

The three of us decided to dedicate our walk to my Aunt who sadly passed away earlier this year, and to my brother-in-laws Aunt who sadly passed away last year due to cancer.

The walk conveniently ended at a pub and it took us just under 2 hours to walk, and a well deserved fruit cider was waiting for me at the finish (not very slimming world but thought I had earned one). My partner, mum, sister and family friend met us at the pub where we then had lunch. Some of the group decided they were going to brave the heat and walk back – we decided that for our first year of doing it we would have a leisurely lunch and then drive home.

I am not sure how much we have raised as a group yet as we are still collecting in our sponsorship’s for the worthwhile Cancer Research Charity. But I will definitely be doing next years one and will be aiming to either be able to jog the whole of the course one way, or to walk the course in both directions.
