This weekend saw a family trip to the 17th Annual Belbroughton Scarecrow Festival and a fantastic day out was had by all.
Belbroughton is a small picturesque village just a couple of miles away from where we live and each year in order to fund raise for the local school, church, cricket club and local charities the residents hold their Scarecrow Festival.
Each year a different theme is chosen and over 100 scarecrows can be seen. This year’s theme was ‘Movies Greatest Heros and Villians’
Many great films were represented and often with a slight twist to the name. DespiCROWable Me was very well represented.
As was ‘Straws’
And ‘Straw Wars’
Some of my other favourites included Count DraCROWla and CROWella de Vil
and Lassie, who whilst she has no mention of the word crow in her name looked amazing. As you can see the people of Belbroughton make a huge effort and last year over 22,000 people turned out for the weekend event.
As well as the scarecrows there was all sorts of family entertainment, bouncy castles, dance displays, Birds of Prey, stunt motorcyclists to name just a few as well as a huge array of barbecues, hot baps, cream teas and ice creams and of course beers and local cider’s on sale.
I love the Scarecrow Weekend because of what it represents. It really is a great British day out, it is local people, raising money for local people and celebrating the end of the summer and harvest season. There is a wonderful sense of history and community about it and with today’s sunshine too it was a remarkable day.
I can reCROWmend this to anyone in the area next year.
