Well done Celebrity Cruises

Celebrity Cruises have said a huge ‘thank you’ to the people of Liverpool for always giving them such a warm welcome by donating £30,000 worth of gym equipment to a local youth centre.

Celebrity Infinity regularly calls at Liverpool port and when they refurbished the gymnasium on board earlier this summer they chose to give the existing equipment away. The Unity Youth and Community Centre in Toxteh received high spec exercise bikes, treadmills and step machines which are less than 2 years old whilst the Liverpool Seafarers Centre benefited from two exercise bikes.

Capt Michael Sympouras, master of Celebrity Infinity, said: “Liverpool is one of our favourite ports as we always get such a great reception when we call here.”

“We wanted the gym equipment to go to a good home and I am very pleased that Cruise Liverpool were able to help us.

“We are delighted that young people and other members of the community will be able to make good use of it.”

This is a great move by Celebrity, especially as they are a US based cruise line and you would have expected them to donate their equipment to a US town, or in today’s world I would expect them to just sell it on. It is a credit to Celebrity that they have done this and to the people of Liverpool that they have been the chosen ones.

I wonder if many other cruise lines have ever done anything similar?
