It’s no secret that cruising in the Far East is massive these days. Cruising out there has been booming in the last few years and it appears that Far East cruisers just can’t get enough of it. Most of the cruise lines have ships in the region, and not just any old ship from the fleet, Existing ships have been refurbished to suit the Far East culture and Royal Caribbean have even deployed some of their newest ships to the region soon after their launch, such is the demand.
Only yesterday Royal Caribbean celebrated their one millionth passenger to embark in Singapore. One very jolly looking Mr Wong Sin Fatt was photographed boarding the ship, probably more dazed than anything to be honest! He was cheered on board by the crew who had been counting down as people embarked. The celebrations continued in the Viking lounge where Mr Fatt was joined by the Captain Claus Anderson and the Managing Director of Asia Pacific who presented the bemused cruiser with the millionth guest prize package – who knew these even existed? I didn’t. And what a lovely package it was, not only is their current four night Penang and Phuket cruise free, they were also furnished with $300 On Board Credit, VIP treatment and a voucher worth $1000 toward their next Royal Caribbean cruise, not bad!
A spokesman for Royal Caribbean said that they had been looking forward to welcoming their millionth guest on board, having grown from one 2000 berth ship in the region just 10 years ago, they now have three ships double that size currently deployed there including their newest Quantum Class ship, Ovation of the Seas which with all it’s highly innovative, ground breaking features is proving a huge success.
Given the amount of berths now available on Royal Caribbean ships in the Far East it certainly isn’t going to be another ten years before they welcome their next millionth passenger is it. And don’t forget, they also offer cruises departing Hong Kong, Shanghai and Bejing. It’s a big old market out there!
For now, happy cruising folks. I will catch you soon.
