Historic Christening for Viking River Cruises……….

A few weeks ago Viking celebrated the launch of its four, yes four, new Longships. An historic occasion for the industry as never before have four ships been christened at the same time, and every detail was perfect on the day – efficiency is something that Viking excel at.
One of the godmothers was out very own Joanna Lumley, who christened the Viking Odin, saying ” The Viking Longships are going to be fantastic. To know that you are crossing Europe by water, what could be lovelier?”

Vikings unending quest for perfection has delivered extraordinary results. the Longships are carved from steel, wood and stone. The impression they give is one of being in a beautiful hotel. Every detail is perfect from the windows and light to the art on the walls. Vikings Scandinavian heritage shines through to create a style that is contemporary while being warm and inviting at the same time.
One of the ships most stunning featurs is the new Aquavit Terrace where the floor to ceiling glass doors of the lounge roll back allowing people to enjoy the comfort of inside while being outside – a wonderful place to sit and enjoy passing scenery, weather permitting of course!
These wonderful new vessels will be sailing the popular Rhine and Danube itineraries, taking river cruising to a whole new level. I, for one, can’t wait to try them out. I am passionate about river cruising already so these new Longships are going to be a real treat.
If any of you are lucky enough to experience one of these new ships this year, please give us some feedback. We would love to know what you think of them and whether they are as good as promised.
