York – from a different perspective……..

I have just had a lovely few days away with a friend up in Leeds and York. I have been to York before, many years ago with school – so make that many years ago!

Despite the air pollution we had a great few days sightseeing. I have to say I didn’t realise how lovely Leeds is, but I will come back to that in another post.

Friday was spent in York, doing all the usual tourist things that you can fit into one day. We walked the city walls right around the city, we climbed up to Cliffords Tower and had a look inside, wandered through The Shambles and briefly popped into York Minster. Last time I went to York the Minster was free to visit but due to the £10pp entrance fee they have slapped on I refused to go in on this occasion. Since when have you had to pay to go into a church? Absolutely outrageous I say!

I can highly recommend York if you have never visited. Apart from the things we did there is the Railway Museum for train buffs, York Museum, and the Jorvik Viking Museum. Plenty to keep you going for a few days, and of course no visit to York would be complete without a visit to Bettys Tea Rooms – a real old fashioned, proper afternoon tea experience!

While there I took a few snaps, as I do. My friend is a professional photographer and take some really good shots, not me though, I just snap away merrily, taking some half reasonable pictures for posterity. Anyway, on account of never taking a straight shot I have decided to deploy a new way of taking photos – all lopsided on purpose.

Let’s see what you think! I have included a few of my ‘new shots’ and I hope you enjoy them!
We all love our cruising and visiting foreign shores is always exciting, especially if it is a new port of call, but sometimes it is just as good to visit somewhere a little closer to home. It reminds us that England too has some wonderful places to visit on our own doorstep.
